Motto: Prepare, Respect, Compete

Goals: To teach the depth and fundamentals of the sport of wrestling to any athlete of any age and level of experience and have opportunities available for all levels to compete and to grow in the sport. Our coaches will instill discipline and focus in all athletes. They will help wrestlers develop technique, strength, confidence, and respect.

Mission: Our program runs off love for the sport of wrestling, and we will give every athlete an opportunity to learn and to grow in the sport.

Expectations: We expect that every wrestler that steps on the mat will try their best, have fun and understand that their success will only be as good as their preparation.

Practice Information:

Location         Hopewell Valley Central High School Wrestling Room

Days               Tuesday and Thursday Nights

First Practice: around 11/12/24

Last Practice:  around 2/27/25

Practice Times:

K-5th – Practices are 1 to 1.5 hours from 6:30pm-7:30pm or 6:30pm-8:00pm, depending on age and skill level

Middle School – 6:30-8pm (Practices are optional during Timberlane Wrestling Season)

Equipment: Wrestling shoes & wrestling headgear (used equipment can be provided upon request). Mouthguard if you wear braces. Singlets will be provided for use in competitions.

Competition Options:

Wrestlers can compete in recreational and travel leagues, depending on what experience they are looking for.

Rec K – 8: Competes January-February Open to all skill levels. Wrestlers compete on weekends at local schools and at the Newtown Athletic Center. Individual matches determined by age, weight, and skill level. Wrestlers provide wrestling shoes and headgear. Weekly matches will be on Saturdays or Sundays starting in January which run about 2 to 3 hours. Your child will wrestle about 2 or 3 matches in this time span. Your child could also wrestle 4 or more depending on his weight class. There is a League Tournament in February, which is open to all wrestlers.

JV Travel K – 6: Competes December-February For intermediate and advanced wrestlers. Wrestlers compete as a team with dual matches (see below) in the Central Jersey Youth Wrestling League. These matches will be within an hour drive. The final Tournament is in February with medals awarded for the top 6 wrestlers in each weight class and trophies for the top 3 teams. This provides an opportunity for TMS 6th Graders to get more matches during the season.

Girls Wrestling: Compete in the Jersey Girl’s Wresting League which is generally in the northwestern part of the State.

Middle School Travel: Competes December-February For middle school wrestlers that seek higher level competition. Practices are optional during TMS Wrestling season. Wrestlers compete as a team in weekly quad/tri meets in the NJ Grade School Wrestling League, usually on Saturdays. Matches will usually be within an hour drive, some teams in North NJ may exceed that. There is a Tournament in February with medals for the top 8 wrestlers at each weight.This provides an opportunity for TMS wrestlers to get more matches during the season.

Definitions:

Dual Match/Duals – A team match where wrestlers compete at designated weight classes to gain points per match that contribute to a team score against the opposing team. A wrestler can expect to wrestle 1 match, exhibitions may be arranged for additional matches at the end.

Quad/Tri Meet – Where 3-4 teams wrestle each other in duals. Wrestlers can expect 2-3 matches.

Wrestle-Offs – Team rosters are determined by coach and includes wrestle offs at each weight class. A wrestler must have weighed in by 12/31 in order to challenge a teammate for the weight.
